Same-pitch and monophonic overlap truncation: overlaps resolved in input order · case 01
When notes are listed out of time order, the later-listed earlier note is never truncated by the note that follows it in time.
ROOT CAUSE
Notes are processed in their input order instead of sorted by start.
VERIFIED REPAIR
Restore the processing order step so that it reads `sorted(notes, key=lambda n: (n[0], n[2]))`.
Unsuccessful approach: Sorting by end time does not order notes by when they start.
Case contract
Input [notes, mode] where notes are [start, end, pitch] in any order and mode is poly or mono. Sort by start then pitch. Each note ends no later than the start of the next note that starts strictly later and has the same pitch (poly) or any pitch (mono). Notes whose length becomes zero or negative are removed. Return the notes in sorted order; unknown mode returns None.
Why this case matters
MIDI sequencers, file readers and synth drivers depend on exact event ordering and tick/time arithmetic.

A deterministic bounded teaching model with a stipulated toy contract; it is not a complete Standard MIDI File or MIDI 1.0/2.0 implementation. This reproducer isolates one failure mechanism. Results cover the supplied fixtures. Variants within a family share a test contract and should remain grouped when constructing evaluation splits. Related mechanisms with a shared evaluation_group must also remain together; these controlled models are not independent production incidents.
