Case contract

Four ceil-halved mip levels each contain all array layers. Each layer owns a one-byte tag and tightly packed texels; level records add a five-byte header. Return the allocation directory and selected layer origin. Return the named intermediate layout descriptor and final address fields; all quantities are integer byte offsets unless explicitly stated.
